Barack Obama

People can overcome downfalls and become great idols. Obama was raised was raised by a single mother and grandparents. This can say that while he is president he will not just target the wealthy but will do more to help single mothers and the less fortunate. Obama was also elected Illinois senate in 1996, and was reelected in 1998 and again in 2002. This states that although he is young the crowd likes his ways of leading because he was elected three times to office. All this states that Obama has overcome many things and has proved he can be a great leader.

There is s mystery behind every smile. For example as an adult Obama admitted that he used of marijuana, cocaine, and alcohol during high school. This proves that while he was in high school he paid more attention to peer pressure and not academics. Also there have been comments saying that he will not salute the flag. How can we have a president that shows no respect to our flag? This concludes the theory of a mystery behind every smile.

John McCain

Recovery is always a great thing to go through. After his marriage McCain requested a combat assignment and he earned the rank of lieutenant commander. His leadership is paid off and can lead our country into greatness. Also McCain served four terms as senate. This proves that he has sufficient experience so that if there is ever a crisis he can lead the way out. This concludes that although he had a rough early life he overcame it and now does great things.

Sometimes experience is not everything you need many more things. For example McCain only did well on subjects that interested him and only studied enough to pass the ones he struggled with. This proves that while he may have experience he did not used to be the top student he was one of the lowest ones. While he was in the naval academy he came into conflict with higher ranking personnel for he did not only follow the rules. This also proves that while he may have experience he is not a rule follower and how can we expect him to lead our country that way. This concludes that just because McCain has experience does not mean he has had all other good things.

Sarah Palin

Besides the fact that she has had to play the mom she can very well handle a country while handling her kids. Sarah served two terms as the mayor of Wasilla. This proves that while she was the mayor she earned the great respect that she now has and has come a long way . Also at age forty-two the youngest governor in Alaskan history. This experience has made her more mature in her decisions and the way she does and says things. This concludes that she can play the role having good leadership and running a country besides the role of a parent.
Many people only see her as a beautiful women but she has had her own bad things maybe playing the role of parent and politic has been to much. For example Palin’s teenage daughter is pregnant. If she was not able to even well educate her own daughter how can we expect her to well help run this country. Also in Alaska Palin had a voracious appetite for the very congressional earmarks and pork barrel spending that McCain is trying to stamp out. If our two country leaders can not agree on one thing how can they agree on most things that will be very important to us in the future? This shows that even though many people look at her as just being pretty she was not able to handle many things at once in the past especially parenting.

Joe Biden

Biden is not only a great leader but a great parent. While he was a single father he left orders to be interrupted in senate if any of sons ever called. This states that he has a great sense of love for his family and is willing to do any thing for them. Biden also became senate at age 30 the minimum age to become a us senate. This proves that he has great leadership to be chosen at such an early age. This states that he can be a great and a great leader all at once.

Sometimes presidential candidates don’t always have the good grades. While at the naval academy he was athletically not academically oriented. If he is not academically oriented how can we expect him to do important things that require him to be academically oriented? When attending the University of Delaware he later described himself as a lazy student. If he was a lazy student how do we know he will not be lazy vice-president. This proves that he was not such a great student so he may not be such a great vice-president.

Collage: Obama

My collage for Obama is just about the two things that he is for which is change and race. For example I put his logo because it is a brief explanation of what he is for and that is simply change and he will do all that is possible to do so. Also I put down Race because unlike McCain he chose a man but of opposite race and that means that since he is African-American he chose a Caucasian Male to fill in the gap that was missing. This shows what Obama is for and what he has done to and will do to get it.

Collage: McCain

Basically my collage on McCain states what he is for and what kind of person he is. For example I added Gender because considering he has chosen Palin he is for gender and respects the rights of women. Also I added Pride to my collage because he has so much for his country because he put his own life in risk just to save one of his colleagues for the very fact that his pride for his country lead him to saving a life. My collage basically states the McCain's main facts.

Obama is depicted as smiling and shaking hands with Uncle Sam. this shows how some people are thinking that Obama could have had some sort of alliance with the people of this country. On the other hand Uncle Sam or the country is seen as smiling back at Obama and shaking his hand. this can also mean that the country got what it wanted which was Obama. some people right now are thinking that Obama cheated in the election. Other people say that he won fair and square and that the people wanted him.

The hare and the tortoise old tale don't you think? John McCain is depicted as being a turtle and on a walking cane. this shows how McCain is seen as the turtle that is stretching out just so he can win the long race which is the election. On the other hand Obama is seen as being the fast hare. this shows how the people seed him as a the person who is far ahead but that he has to watch every move so that nothing goes wrong. this shows how the people are seeing McCain and Obama as the tortoise and the hare.
Peter Pismestrovic. "Hunttes Dream." Political Cartoons. 23 Sep. 2008

Sarah Palin is seen as wanting to hunt down the Democratic Party so that she could add to her collection. Sarah Palin is seen as sitting in a chair holding a rifle and thinking about how she will have the Democratic Party’s head. This shows how she wants to hunt down the party and have their heads in other words that she wants to defeat the party. Also in the background there are some other animal’s heads with their name underneath. This further shows how she will have their head to add to her collection of animals that she has beheaded. In conclusion, Sarah Palin is depicted as wanting to defeat the Democratic Party and have them as her next trophy.

Big business on Wall Street appears to care about helping the tax payer, but in reality they out themselves first. For example there is a fat man on a building that says Wall Street and he’s saying “you first”. The fat man represents big business and if he is all dressed up he must not be in any trouble with his payments or debt. Also there is a man that has fallen off the building and his shirt says taxpayers and his pockets are out. This further shows how since the tax payers are broke they are the first ones to fall due to the fact that big business has brought them to this because it has not helped them but ruined them. This all shows how big business hides the truth about wanting to help the tax payer but in reality it does not want to go down before the taxpayer does.
Tab. "Wall Street Jumps." Political Cartoons. 1 Oct. 2008
Keefe. "McCain picks Palin." Political Cartoon. 3 Sep. 2008

The Republican Party is seen as old, experienced, and yet selecting inexperienced candidates just for their youth. For example this cartoon shows McCain using a walker and saying “lack of experience.” This shows how McCain is old and thinks he has sufficient experience to become the next president. Another example of the party selecting young candidates in this cartoon is how Palin is depicted as being in a stroller which McCain is pushing and saying “As your running mate, I’m the attack dog right? What should I hit him with?” This further shows that Palin has been for her youth and the thought that she could have fresh ideas.

The Senate Democrats are seen as pushing Lieberman onto the Republican Party for giving it the cold shoulder. The democratic symbol is serious and says senate democrats on it there is snow on its shoulder and above its shoulder is written cold shoulder. This shows how the party is seen as having a cold shoulder and being serious about it. There is man that has a scarf on that says Lieberman and he is on the democrats shoulder skiing down onto an elephant’s trunk. This further shows how Lieberman has had to “slide down” from the democrats and onto the republicans because the democrats are giving it the cold shoulder. This concludes that the Democratic Party has had a cold shoulder towards Lieberman.

Essential Question

In my opinion these cartoons depict the bad and good things of each candidate. The views of a society or just one person can make a huge difference. For example if one rumor starts about one of the candidates his votes could decrease massively. Now if we looked at it the other way were it is a good rumor it could help his popularity increase but the only bad thing is if the rumor isn't true. These cartoons show what the people have thought about each of the candidates since they started running until the very end of this election.

Tech. policies

From my research on the technology issues i have found many things including what each candidate is proposing to do. I have noticed that one of the policies that is being strongly addressed is the way our technology is growing. This makes sense. why? Well because everyday our technology is expanding so much that some thing you can't really explain. It is quite obvious that out growing technology would be one of the most addressed policies within the technology issues.

To further illustrate that i have gone and found out what each candidate is proposing to do in order to keep this country up with it' s growing technology. Since the Internet according to Obama, is the most open network in history he strongly supports the  principle of network neutrality. This will preserve the benefits of competition on the Internet. I looked up McCain's view and he supports the freedom to use the Internet as we please as long as the applications do no harm the network. This is another one of those things that makes sense because people should have the right to do anything on the Internet as long as it is not harmful to others and the network. Considering the way kids/teens are now I am sure that they will agree with either one of these depending on their views.

The real issues

Abortion: John McCain believes in promoting abortion as the first choice for women struggling with a crisis pregnancy. On the other hand Obama will make preserving women's rights under Roe v. Wade a priority. The candidates both have similar and different views. On one hand  Obama is pro-life and McCain isn't.

Education: John Mccain believes american education must be worthy of a promise. He believes that our schools can and should compete to be the most innovative and student-centered. Obama believes in reforming No Child left Behind. He also believes in improving the college ready assessments.

Death penalty: Obama has consistently supported the death penalty. His views have changed over time he is now against the death penalty. John McCain supports the death penalty. He not only supports the state but the federal level too.

Environment: McCain believes curbing greenhouse gas by establishing a market-based system. He believes in securing our energy future by working with our international partners. Obama cracking down on excessive energy speculation. this will provide a short-term relief to American families. He also believes in an economy- wide cap- and- trade program that will help reduce Greenhouse gas by 80%.

Health care: Obama believes in a health care plan for americans that is affordable and accessible. His health care plan will help reduce personal health care bill by about $2,500 per year. McCain is proposing a comprehensive vision to achieve accessible health care. He believes in making it more affordable by ensuring that the aspects of the health care system competes vigorously to the people's needs.

Immigration: John McCain believes that the first step to a reform is securing our borders. The last or second step that he believes in is prosecuting "bad actor" employers. Obama believes in a three step plan. His plan includes securing our borders and improving our immigration system. His last step is to bring people out of the shadows.

Iraq War: Obama three step solution would be to one end the war responsibly and two encourage  political accommodation. The last step to his plan would be to increase stability in iraq and the region. While McCain believes in keeping the troops in Iraq. He thinks this because he believes that it is essential for the U.S. to support the government on Iraq. These are two really different views that will change this country maybe forever.

Economy: Jonh McCain will create an economic plan that will create millions of american jobs and that will ensure our nation's energy security. He also believes that the high cost of gasoline and food has been hurting many americans. He states that he will act imediatly to lower those cost. While he plans on that, Obama believes that his three step plan will bring relief to many americans. His three step plan is to first: provide a tax cut for working families, second: provide tax relief for small businesses and startups, and third: he will fight for fair trade.

Poverty: Obama believes that the problem to poverty  is that the minimum wage is not enough and that that is why poverty is rising. His three step plan will provide more access jobs, provide better benefits for working parents, and he will support rural and urban areas. McCain on the other hand, his plan for reducing poverty goes along with his economic plan. He believes that small businesses are the key to job growth. He also plans to take back earmark funds which will  reclaim billions.

Stem cell research: Mccain states that he continues to support stem cell research. He believes that stem cell research has potential that it will soon make. He also stated that one of the reasons why he supports it is because "those embryos will be either discarded or kept in permanent frozen status." This is one of the very few issues that they can agree on, Obama has said that he supports stem cell research. Although his view on it is that doing this can treat million of people suffering from life-threatening diseases.

Science/Technology

Some topics are more important than others but few are more than science. For example global warming/ climate change are one of the most important issues that politicians have to deal with right now. This is important b/c what if all of a sudden nobody cared for the environment it would completely be destroyed wouldn't it?? Also nuclear weapons are another “big hit". I guess the reason why they are so important is the fact that they can cause a lot of damage and yet countries use them in order to protect themselves. Another example is off shore drilling. Many people are wondering whether it is right or not b/c it is taking away the resources from our coastlines but on the other hand when we truly need those resources and we have no other way to get them then we might just as well do it.
Of course these issues are going to impact us economically. They may have there positive and negatives for example the issue with the environment can lead to a downfall b/c along with a solution to it will come a long budget. As for nuclear weapons they may have a positive b/c if there are no nuclear weapons then we wont have to be paying millions just to make them. Off shore drilling has both a negative side and positive b/c if we drill through then that will mean more resources which would equal more profits but that would mean more money out of our pockets just to drill through.

From looking over the topics I have an opinion on mostly the three of them. For the environment issue I strongly think that we should do something about it. It would not matter if it cost a lot because in the end we would end up prospering from a healthy environment after all we only have one earth and that’s our home and we need to take good care of it. For off shore drilling I feel that we should not do it unless we are in desperate measures. If we do it just because we want to then we would not prosper instead we would lose. As for nuclear weapons I don’t really have an opinion I just think that nuclear weapons should not be used just because a country feels that they need to use it in order to feel superior to another, I feel that the only time they should be used is in when a country is in need and is in the risk of going into a down fall.

MICHIGAN

The state that i chose to follow through out the election is Michigan. The reason I chose this state is because I have relatives that live there and because it's one of the states that I find interseting. Also I chose this state because it is one of the swing states and Mr. Ritter has talked about the importance of swing states. Since this state is a swing state it is of great importance to the 2008 election. That is why I have chosen this state.
From my research and calculations I have calculated that Obama will win the sate of Michigan. My findings are quite accurate because they are based on the average of both of the candidates and where the candidates popularity was on the last poll. This will have an impact on the election not a big one but it will have one considering that Michigan has 17 electoral votes. Using the regression is a quite accurate tool that can save a lot of time on trying to figure out who will be the winner for a specific state. Now that the election is over I have viewed the final results and my calculations were and are correct.
